Celebration of Anant Chaturdashi 2021 didn’t halt even in pandemic times

The coronavirus pandemic has been a 2 years long headache that is yet not gone. Despite being warned of the third wave of the pandemic in the coming months, people’s determination to celebrate the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi didn’t die down. Yes, coronavirus cases have been on a declining trend for a while now and the restrictions from the respective state governments are also relaxed. However, this led to the thousands of devotees in Maharashtra coming on the streets to immerse the Lord Ganesha idols that were situated in their homes, local pandals, and even temples.

In Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had released strict orders to follow for social distancing and coronavirus related appropriate behavior but the volunteers and many devotees couldn’t stop themselves on 19 September, the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi, and were found being a part of the final immersion processions of Lord Ganesha idols. Some people followed the social distancing and mask-wearing activity, however many were found just enjoying the occasion with no care.

The situation has arisen even after the repeated advice from the Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on launching a strong action against the coronavirus disease and asking people to not gather in crowds as the fear of the third wave still continues. There were also immersion processions held in Hyderabad, New Delhi, Amritsar, and many other parts of India.

As people are now eagerly waiting to welcome Durga Maa in October this year on the occasion of the Navratri festival, let us not forget what these festivals actually mean to us. God doesn’t come and neither goes from our lives. God exists everywhere and always, beyond time. These festivals are the only ways of celebrating different Gods’ presence in our lives. We only need to remove the evil and negativity from ourselves and our lives so that we can become more pure, peaceful, and happier in our lives.
