Date:

Jai Shri Ram! This one simple greeting among people creates so much divinity around and that is the power of Lord Shri Ram. The festival of Ram Navami will be celebrated all over the country on 10th April 2022. As Chaitra Navratri has already begun in the nation, the festival will end on Dashami, which is the 10th day and that day forms the celebration of the birth of Lord Shri Ram. Please note that Chaitra Navratri also celebrates the nine forms of Goddess Durga. Devotees worship Lord Ram on Ram Navami. They also break the fast that they observed during Chaitra Navratri and eat a yummy vegetarian meal at the end of the day.

As per mythological stories, Lord Ram who is the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu was born in the afternoon or middle of the day. Thus, devotees keep a day-long fast, sing praises and bhajans of Lord Ram, follow their own rituals as per their community and break their fast by eating the prasads that they have prepared to please Lord Rama. Lord Rama took his birth in human form in Ayodhya as the son of King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya of the Raghu Kula (Solar Dynasty).

Ram Navami also marks the recital of Ram Katha or stories related to Rama’s life journey on the earth from the epic book Ramayana. Some people even visit Rama temples that are located everywhere in the country. Lord Rama’s story is so inspirational for people of all age groups and communities. It is the depiction of good always winning over evil no matter how harsh the situation that the good has to go through.

Although the festival of Ram Navami is named after Lord Ram, it also praises the presence and roles of Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman in the life of Rama. Rama lila is organized at many places to stress the importance of the values of Lord Rama that he had to hold uptight throughout his life journey.

If you are not aware of the various rituals that people practice in their homes to celebrate the festival of Ram Navami, you can simply take a book and start writing Sri Rama Jayam or Jai Shri Ram with any ink pen (red or blue, or green) and write at least 108 times and submit the written papers to a nearby Rama temple. You can even recite the small mantra that talks about the divinity of Lord Rama along with Lord Vishnu:

sri rama rama rameti rame rame manorame sahasranama tat tulyam ramanama varanane

This mantra is included in the Ram Rakshastotra of Lord Shri Rama which talks about how Lord Rama rules the entire universe and how chanting his name is itself equal to the hundreds of names mentioned in the Vishnu Sahasranama stotram that has been written in praise of Lord Vishnu. Lord Rama is considered to be the Maryada Purshottam as he had loads of tolerance and patience to deal with every situation in his human life bravely without losing hope and sanity. You can find Rama Navami celebrations on a grand scale this year held in various parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh among others.
