New Delhi: The BCCI is all set to earn huge money by auctioning the media rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the season starting 2023 to 2027. The board is expected to earn some $ 7.2 billion dollars (about Rs 54 thousand crore) rupees from this auction of nearly five IPL seasons. Tender documents are on sale and big boys of the media industry like – Sony-Zee, TV18 Viacom, Disney-Hotstar and Amazon have bought the bid documents. According to the sources US tech giant Apple is also looking to apply.
Key details of this IPL rights auction
Bid documents can be purchased till May 10. After this, the documents submitted will get scrutinized in the second week of June, while the names of winner will be announced after the auction.
IPL rights will be auctioned in four categories.
BCCI has decided to auction the IPL rights in four different categories. The first bucket belongs to the TV rights of the Indian audience. The second bucket belongs to digital rights. While the third bucket holds the media rights for just 18 matches. (These 18 matches include the IP opener match and the evening matches along with the weekend double-headers and four playoffs). The fourth auction bucket is for broadcast rights outside India.

Reserve base price-
The IPL body has fixed a total base price of about Rs 32,890 crore for all the categories. The base price of TV rights is fixed at Rs 49 crore per match. The base price for digital media per match is fixed at Rs. 33 crore. The base per match for 18 matches is fixed at Rs 16 crore. The base price per match outside India is Rs 3 crore. In total the base price for all the rights adds up to Rs 32,890. However, the BCCI is hoping to get around 54 thousand crores.

As per the BCCI auction for the first and second buckets will be held in one day. While the third and fourth categories will take place on the second day. The whole process will be completed through anonline e-auction. Winners of the first rights will be allowed to bid again for the second bucket. So, if the second bucket was won by some other company, then the first winner may get it by paying more than that. Similarly, the winner of the second bucket will be allowed to bid for the third bucket. Meanwhile, Indian companies can only be bid by the Indian registered broadcaster.
