Baisakhi or Vaisakhi or Sikh New Year is the spring-time harvest festival of the Punjabi community in India. It is the first day of the Vaisakha month, which is the second month of the Hindu calendar. The festival is going to be celebrated on 14 April 2022. It is about remembering the foundation of the Khalsa Panth of warriors in 1699 under Guru Gobind Singh. It is the Order of the Pure Ones. Baisakhi is all about music, dance, and food as it is one of the most colorful and exciting festivals celebrated in the country.
In the northern parts of India, the Falgun or Fagun month begins after the month of Chaitra, which is considered to be the harvest season for the crops. Thus, farmers work towards the sowing and growth of the next season’s crops. On the auspicious festival of Vaisakhi or Baisakhi, Sikhs organize kirtans, go to visit local Gurudwaras, become a part of the community fairs, socialize by holding local kirtan processions, present the Nishan Sahib flag and even prepare delicious foods to observe the festival.

Sikhs also take a blissful dip in the nearby lakes or ponds and wear festival dresses. Food charity, which is also known as Langar Seva is organized. In the Nagar Kirtan procession, the holy book of the Sikhs, which is Guru Granth Sahib, is taken out by devotees who chant or sing holy bhajans.

During Baisakhi, Punjabis prepare wonderful dishes in their homes such as Kadhi, Aam ki Lassi, Kesar Phirni, Atta Halwa, Meethey Peeley Chawal, Aloo poori, Pindi Chana, Makkey ki roti with sarson ka saag, Aloo gobi, Bhindi Masala, Gurudwara Kada Prasad, Gulgule among others. To attract the viewers and get their maximum attention during the festive weekend, many film industries are going to release interesting movies in theatres this April 2022. Dasvi, a social comedy movie starring Abhishek Bachchan and Yami Gautam is going to release today. Jersey, starring Shahid Kapoor in the lead role will be released on 14 April, on the beautiful occasion of Baisakhi. Beast starring Thalapathy Vijay and Pooja Hegde in lead roles will be having its release on 14 April as well. KGF Chapter 2 starring Yash, Sanjay Dutt, and Raveena Tandon is set to release on the same day locking horns with Jersey in the theatres. Runway 34, Acharya, and Heropanti 2 are also having their releases this April.
