On Saturday, Punjab Congress chairman Navjot Singh Sidhu challenged Shiromani Akali Dal’s (SAD) Bikram Singh Majithia to run solely in the Amritsar East constituency in the forthcoming Punjab Assembly election. Former Punjab Minister Majithia is running in both the Amritsar East and Majitha constituencies for the SAD.

“If you (Bikram Singh Majithia) have courage, abandon Majitha and contest elections solely from Amritsar East,” Sidhu stated after filing his nomination papers from Amritsar East.
According to Sidhu, “I don’t want “Loktantra (democracy)” to become “Dandatantra” (force)… The Congress has, and will continue to have faith in this city.” From the seat, Sidhu is the sitting MLA.
