News Desk – The US government has started a massive review of over 55 million visa holders and applicants as part of a stricter crackdown on immigration. According to an AP report, the review aims to find any violations that could lead to visa cancellations or deportations.
The US State Department confirmed that all visa holders including tourists are now under “continuous vetting”. If a violation is found, the visa will be cancelled, and the person will be declared “ineligible” to visit the US. Those already in the country will be deported.
Authorities will be looking for things like:
Staying in the US beyond visa limits
Criminal activity
Threats to public safety
Any terrorist activity or support for terrorist groups
The department said it checks all available information, including law enforcement and immigration records, and any new details that come up after a visa is issued.
Shortly after the news became public, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a pause on all visas for foreign truck drivers. This came after Harjinder Singh, an Indian-origin truck driver, was named the main suspect in a Florida crash that killed three people.
Rubio said on X that more foreign drivers operating big trucks on US roads was endangering lives and hurting American truckers’ jobs. The State Department said the pause is to review screening and vetting rules for drivers.
The Trump administration has also ordered visa applicants and holders to have their social media accounts checked for any anti-American or anti-Semitic content. Officials say America’s benefits should not go to those who “despise the country” or promote such ideologies.
