London: After Tom Tugendhat, the Tory backbencher and chair of the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, backed Liz Truss for conservative leadership Rishi Sunak’s campaign suffered a severe blow on Saturday.

According to reports, the chairman of the foreign affairs select committee said that Truss was the only candidate ready to become prime minister and unite the party. Tugendhat said that after he had watched candidates go head-to-head in live TV debates, “only one has convinced me she’s ready”. Meanwhile, Sunak’s former boss, Boris Johnson, reportedly told his friend that he was feeling sorry for Sunak. Both Sunak and Truss are set to go head-to-head in the TV debate on Thursday.
