From January 10 to January 31, only individuals possessing a double vaccination certificate will be permitted to travel by Chennai local trains, according to the Southern Railway. Passengers who do not have the certificate will be unable to purchase tickets, according to the railways, who are seeing an increase in Covid cases due to the Omicron wave.

There will be no exceptions, and the regulation will apply to both season ticket holders and non-season ticket holders. During this time, the unreserved ticketing system (UTS) on mobile will be unavailable.
On 7 January, Tamil Nadu reported 8,981 new COVID-19 instances. The state capital alone added 4,531 new instances, with Coimbatore, Kancheepuram, and Thiruvallur accounting for the majority of the new cases.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu has recorded 121 cases of COVID-19’s Omicron variant, with 117 recoveries so far.
