Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi announced on Wednesday that a Special Assembly session would be held on November 8 to protest the Centre’s decision to expand the Border Security Force’s (BSF) jurisdiction on Punjab’s borders from 15 kilometers to 50 kilometers, as well as to demand the repeal of three controversial farm laws. The decision to call the extraordinary session was made at a Punjab cabinet meeting held on Wednesday at Circuit House in Ludhiana.
The increase of BSF jurisdiction from 15 to 50 kilometers along Punjab’s borders, according to Channi, is a “direct attack” on the federal system and the states’ authority to maintain law and order. On November 8, a special Vidhan Sabha session will be held to reject this decision. If the Centre does not resolve the BSF issue, we will file a legal complaint with the Supreme Court,” Channi said.

Punjab, according to Channi, is not under any security danger, and the BSF’s 15-kilometer perimeter is sufficient to keep drones at bay. When asked about former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s claim that Pakistani drones were posing a security threat to Punjab by dropping weapons, drugs, and explosives, Channi said: “There is no such security threat to Punjab, and even if there is, the Punjab government is well-prepared to deal with it on its own.” “It is always a ruse and plan of nations to use security risks in the name of Pakistan and Afghanistan before entering our country.”

“However, let me assure you that Punjab is not under any such security danger,” Channi remarked. To safeguard shops, manufacturers, dealers, and businesspeople from ‘harassment,’ Channi issued a series of relaxations and refunds. He will also speak on day two of the fourth Progressive Punjab Investors Summit, which will take place in Ludhiana on Wednesday. During the press conference, Channi stated that he comes from a modest background and understands the challenges that typical and small shops suffer from red-tapism, inspector raj, and other factors.
