Put farm laws on hold or we will do it, Supreme Court to Centre

New Delhi: After finally taking a tough stance on agricultural laws, the Supreme Court has said on Monday that the central government should put these laws on hold first, otherwise the Supreme Court will stop these laws. In the ongoing hearing on the agricultural laws and the farmers ‘agitation on the borders of Delhi, the court expressed displeasure with the Center and said that the way the Center has handled the farmers’ movement, they are very disappointed.

Chief Justice SA Bobde said that ‘the whole thing has been going on for months and nothing is happening. We are very disappointed with you. You said that we are talking. What are you talking about What kind of negotiation are you doing? ‘ The court said that it will form a committee to investigate the agricultural laws. He said that if the laws are not put on hold, we will stop it.

The CJI said that ‘We are not saying that you cancel the law. We are hearing very absurd things whether the court should interfere or not. Our aim is to find a solution to the problem. We asked you, why don’t you put the law on hold? ‘ He said that ‘farmers are committing suicide every day. There is no water facility, no basic facility, social distancing is not being followed. Farmers have also included the elderly and women in the movement. I want to ask the farmers organizations why women and old people are in protest in this cold? ‘

The CJI said that ‘We are thinking directly that we should put the agricultural law on hold until the committee gives its report. We want to make it clear that we are not against the demonstration. The protest may continue, but the question is whether the protest should be held at this place? The CJI said that we feel that the way in which the movements (dhol-nagara etc.) are happening on the dharna demonstration, it seems that one day something can happen in a peaceful demonstration. We do not want anyone injured. He said that if anything inadvertently goes wrong then everyone will be responsible for it.
