The Zoom conference came after footage surfaced on January 25 of police officers barging into lodges housing students and aspirants for various government recruitment examinations, busting through doors and caning people late at night.
Angry applicants had attempted to block trains at Prayag railway station hours before the police raid, upset over some sections of the Railway Recruitment Board’s Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) recruitment exam.
When the aspirants failed to disperse, the police, Government Railway Police (GRP), and Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrived on the scene, along with railway officials, and the police used mild force. The cops detained some of the protestors as well. Leaders from across the political spectrum, including the Congress, the SP, and the BSP, have all expressed their displeasure with this.
