PM Modi Warns MPs Skipping Parliament

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the importance of party MPs attending Parliament on Tuesday, warning that if they do not change, there may be changes in the future. “Please attend Parliament and meetings on a regular basis. When they are repeatedly pointed at, even children become irritated. During the BJP Parliamentary conference, PM Modi allegedly exhorted party MPs, “Please make a change, else change will come on its own.” The Prime Minister delivered the remarks at the Ambedkar International Centre, which hosted a BJP parliamentary party gathering.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said the Prime Minister instructed party MPs at the meeting, which was conducted outside the Parliament premises for the first time, that they should all organise sporting events in their individual constituencies. Joshi repeated that the government was willing to lift the suspension of Rajya Sabha MPs if they agreed to apologise for their behaviour during the Monsoon Session. “We explained why they were put on hold. Whatever occurred was observed by the entire country. It’s on the books. We’re willing to lift the suspension if they apologise even today,” he stated.

On the subject of attendance, the Prime Minister stated that party MPs should attend Parliament sessions on a regular basis, adding that when children are repeatedly reminded of a problem, they do not repeat it. Modi has already expressed his displeasure with BJP MPs’ lack of attendance. BJP president J P Nadda told the conference that party MPs should invite district presidents and mandal presidents from their respective constituencies to tea and communicate with them.

Similarly, on December 14, the Prime Minister will summon district presidents from Varanasi, his constituency. Tribal MPs, including Union Minister Arjun Munda, congratulated Prime Minister Modi for declaring Birsa Munda’s birthday as ‘Jan Jatiya Diwas’ at the commencement of the meeting. BJP MPs were also given a book that compiled the work of several ministers on the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
