PM Modi to Conduct a Review Meeting Regarding Covid Situation in the Country

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will conduct a review meeting on December 23, i.e., tomorrow, in the wake of an increase in instances of the Omicron type of Covid-19 in the country. On Wednesday, India’s Omicron tally reached 213 cases, with the highest total instances in Delhi and Maharashtra, at 57 and 54, respectively. In the past, the Prime Minister has convened similar review sessions. PM Modi had ordered authorities to consider proposals to reduce restrictions on overseas travel during the previous review meeting, which took place at the end of November.

In light of the new version, the Prime Minister instructed authorities to be “pro-active.” PM Modi has advised people to remain vigilant before the opening of the winter session of Parliament. He stated that the government’s first concern is the citizens’ health, and he announced that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, which provides free grains, will be extended until March 2022.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet tomorrow to discuss the domestic Corona 19 situation,” he said. According to the latest data from the Coalition Health Department, 90 of 213 patients have recovered and been discharged from the hospital. Telangana has 24, Karnataka has 19, Rajasthan has 18, Kerala has 15, and Gujarat has 14.

In response to an increase in instances of the Omicron coronavirus variety in several regions of the nation, the Centre has already requested states to implement night curfews and carefully manage mass gatherings. Meanwhile, according to statistics from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the country recorded 6,317 new Covid-19 cases, 318 fatalities, and 6,906 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The active caseload in India now amounts at 78,190. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Tuesday that “2022 should be the year the epidemic ends.” WHO Director-General Margaret Chan said at a press conference that “2022 will be a year for all countries to step up their efforts to prevent another catastrophe of this scale and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.”
