New Delhi: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has won the trust vote in the National Assembly on Saturday. He needed 171 votes to win in the 342-member National Assembly. Imran Khan got 178 votes, including 157 more allies of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Isaf. The opposition boycotted this confidence vote, so the opposition MPs were not present in the house. After the defeat of his finance minister in the Senate elections, the opposition pressurized Imran Khan to resign. He was planning a motion of no confidence, but Imran Khan himself went ahead and announced a vote of confidence.
Pakistan’s National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser announced that Imran Khan has received 178 votes today. He said that in 2018 when Imran Khan became PM, 176 votes were received. Significantly, after Geelani’s victory, many opposition leaders heavily criticized Khan and demanded that he should resign from the post of Prime Minister.
The 68-year-old Khan, a cricketer-turned-politician, had said on Thursday, “I will get the confidence vote the day after tomorrow (Saturday).” I will ask my members to show that they have faith in me. If they say they have no faith, then I will sit on the opposition bench. “
