Over 27,000 people have been deployed in the national capital for security arrangements ahead of Republic Day, according to Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana, who also said that anti-terror efforts in the city have been stepped up.

According to the commissioner, 27,723 Delhi Police officers from all grades and branches have been deployed to ensure security. He also stated that 65 central armed police companies will support the city police in dealing with any crisis.
The commissioner stated that preparations for Republic Day began shortly after Independence Day last year, and that the Delhi Police has increased anti-terror efforts in conjunction with other security agencies over the last two months. He went on to say that in addition to internal meetings, interstate coordination meetings were held to guarantee that security was not compromised.
The commissioner stated that the police have been “proactively” raising public awareness about the dos and don’ts, as well as the importance of being vigilant of any left luggage or other objects, through its social media accounts.
