Nirbhaya’s mother says my fight to execute convicts will continue

Date:

New Delhi: The death sentence of nirbhaya gang rape and murder convicts has once again been averted. Delhi’s Patiala House Court has deferred the execution of the accused on February 1. The execution of all the culprits has been averted until further orders of the court. Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi’s reaction came after the execution decision.

“The lawyer of the culprits, AP Singh, had challenged me to the court that the executions would not take place for eternity. She said the government and the court are repeatedly bowing down against those criminals. She said that the saddest thing is that a criminal lawyer challenged us that it could never be executed. She said the government and the court are giving opportunities to the culprits.

Asha Devi said, “I will continue my fight. The government will have to execute the culprits. The Patiala court has ordered that the culprits will not be executed till further orders. The Patiala House Court order came after 5.30 pm on Friday. According to a death warrant issued earlier, the culprits were to be hanged on February 1, i.e. yesterday. A copy of the new order was given by the court in the evening. Earlier, Pawan, convicted of nirbhaya gang rape and murder, was shocked by the Supreme Court. The supreme court dismissed the review petition filed by convict Pawan Gupta. Pawan had filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against the decision to dismiss the plea of being a minor at the time of the offence. Pawan had filed a review petition in the Supreme Court on the January 20 order rejecting Pawan’s plea for being a minor at the time of the offence.
