New Delhi: The National Green Authority (NGT) has completely banned the sale and use of all types of firecrackers in the National Capital Region from November 9 midnight to midnight on November 30. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel also made it clear that the ban will apply to every city and town in the country where air quality is ‘poor’ in the month of November (as per last year’s available data) or Were recorded in categories above that.
“In cities or towns where air quality is recorded as ‘moderate’ or below, only green firecrackers can be sold and on other occasions such as Diwali, Chhath, New Year / Christmas Eve,” the bench said. The time limit to use and break them can be limited to two hours, as the states concerned can decide. ”
The bench said, “Restriction / prohibition in other places is optional for the officers and if there are stringent steps in this regard in the order of the authorities, they will be applicable.” In addition, the NGT directed all states / UTs to initiate initiatives to control air pollution from all sources as pollution could potentially lead to cases of Kovid-19.
