Haldia: Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Sunday promised that if Bharatiya Janata Party was voted to power in West Bengal, the Union Cabinet in its first meeting after the elections would clear several farm-related welfare schemes for farmers of the poll-bound state.
The assertion from the Prime Minister holds importance as tens of thousands of farmers have been protesting against the newly-enacted farm laws for almost two-and-half months at borders of Delhi.
Addressing a rally at Helipad ground in this port city of East Medinipur, Mr Modi slammed the Mamata Banerjee-led government alleging, “the TMC of maa, maati, maanus is making farmers suffer, while one can see who is working to benefit farmers.”
Mr Modi said the Bengal government joined the PM Kisan scheme reluctantly, “while the Centre is still unable to transfer benefits because the details of Bengal farmers have not been provided.
“Striking nationalist chord, Mr Modi alleged “Mamata di gets irked if someone asks her about development and chant Jai Shri Ram, “but does not say a word at international conspiracies to defame the nation.”
“Attempts are being made to target India’s image, but has Mamata reacted?” he questioned.
He said his government is well prepared to save the country and its people from any “attempt to defame the nation”.
Mr Modi claimed that now the people have realised what the TMC had promised before the 2011 poll and what the party delivered.
“Now the people wanted to get rid of the TMC government and look for real poriborton (change) and a “double engine government” (both at the state and centre) would restore the lost glory of Bengal,” Mr Modi said.
