Many important changes have been implemented in India’s defense industry for the first time since independence. The sector now has more transparency and confidence than ever before, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday.
The prime minister said a single-window approach had been put in place instead of stagnating policies to grow India as a significant producer of defense equipment after dedicating seven new state-run defense enterprises to replace the Ordnance Factory Board.

Modi said in a video speech at the ceremony that while India celebrates 75 years of independence, projects that had been stalled for a long time are being finished.”In the country’s defence sector, there is now more openness, trust, and a technology-driven strategy than ever before. For the first time since independence, our defence industry is undergoing significant reforms.

The event was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and members from the defense industry groups. To increase self-reliance in the country’s defense readiness, the government split the almost 200-year-old Ordnance Factory Board into seven separate companies.
