New Delhi: Dharmapala Gulati, popularly known as Masala King, has died at the age of 98. Gulati was the head of the MDH group. Gulati, who started the spice business from a small town, had MDH delivered to every home kitchen. He was also known for his special look. Importantly, he has always been the brand ambassador of MDH. And even at the age of 98, they have been seen in advertisements.
Coming to Delhi in search of employment, he started running Tanga, but luck was something more acceptable. That is why he started selling spices by giving that tanga to his brother. His spice hit the tongues of the people so much that the nation was rocked. Gulati bought the spice business from his father for Rs. 1500, and gave it to his brother. And started selling spices at a small shop in Karol Bagh. By the 60s, Mahashiyan Di Hatti had become a famous spice shop in Karol Bagh.
In view of the growing business, he set up his first factory of manufacturing spices in 1959 at Kirti Nagar, Delhi. After a long journey of 93 years, Mahashiyan Di Hatti of Sialkot has now become a brand of spices in the world as MDH. MDH has a turnover of more than Rs 1500 crore.
