Mamata skips cyclone Yaas review meet, keeps PM Mod waiting for 30 minutes

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made Prime Minister Narendra Modi wait for about 30 minutes in a review meeting organized to assess the damage caused by cyclonic storm Yaas. Banerjee, who later attended the meeting, submitted a report of the damage caused to the state by the cyclone.

According to sources, Mamata Banerjee reached the review meeting with the Chief Secretary of the state about 30 minutes late. It is being told that she was in the same premises. Even after this, she did not stay there for much time and immediately left the place saying that she would attend the second meeting.

Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankad wrote on Twitter that it would be in the interests of the state and the people to participate in the review meeting of the Chief Minister and officials with the Prime Minister. The confrontation stance sickens the interests of the state and democracy. Not taking part of the Chief Minister and officials is not consistent with constitutionalism and the rule of law.

Responding to Dhankad’s tweet, Mamata said that she was not made aware of the said meeting. She tweeted that she met the Prime Minister separately and made him aware of the ground reality. At that time there was no one there. During this, the PM submitted a report of the assessment of the cyclone of the state government and demanded a package of 20 thousand crores for the state. After this Mamata Banerjee left for Digha area of West Bengal along with the Chief Secretary for relief and reconstruction work.
