Madhya Pradesh: 22 rebel Congress MLAs join BJP

Date:

New Delhi: 22 rebel Congress MLAs who resigned from the Madhya Pradesh Assembly and toppled the Kamal Nath government joined the BJP on Saturday. BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya gave this information. He along with rebel MLA Jyotiraditya Scindia met BJP President JP Nadda who welcomed his decision to join the saffron party.

There is a possibility that BJP will field him in the assembly by-election to be held after his resignation. These MLAs, considered pro-Scindia, met Nadda at his residence. Vijayvargiya was also present on this occasion. The Speaker on Thursday accepted the resignation of 16 of these rebel MLAs.

In such a situation, when it became clear that the Kamal Nath government was losing its majority, then the next day Chief Minister Kamal Nath announced his resignation. The Speaker of the Assembly had already accepted the resignation of six of them. Former Union Minister Scindia recently left the Congress and joined the BJP. There is a possibility that BJP can claim to form government in Madhya Pradesh. The Election Commission will announce the by-election dates after the corona virus crisis is over.
