New Delhi: The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) said in a statement that India successfully test-fired the supersonic cruise missile BrahMos from a naval indigenously built stealth destroyer on Sunday. The missile was fired from INS Chennai in the Arabian Sea, which after performing high-powered and extremely complex maneuvers, accurately pierced the target.
The DRDO stated that BrahMos would ensure the invincibility of the warship by targeting long-range naval surface targets as prime strike weapons. Such a destroyer missile would give more strength to the Indian Navy. BrahMos is designed, developed and manufactured jointly by India and Russia. Meanwhile, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, BrahMos and the Indian Navy for the successful launch.
Earlier on Thursday, India successfully test-fired the Prithvi-2 ballistic missile with a range of more than 250 km off the coast of Balasore, Odisha. The missile developed by DRDO is already part of the Strategic Forces Command. It is India’s first indigenous surface-to-surface missile.
