On January 15, India celebrates Army Day with a great zeal. It is named after Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa (K. M. Cariappa), the Indian Army’s Commander-in-Chief. Every year, a military parade and other military exhibitions are held at Delhi Cantonment’s Cariappa Parade Ground to commemorate the day.

In 2022, it’s the 74th Indian Army Day with nearly the same pride, fervor, and emotion, so that future generations can appreciate the Indian Army’s sacrifices and services.
Significance and history of Army Day
The British Indian Army was created on April 1, 1895, inside British rule, and was known as the British Indian Army. India did not have its first Indian chief until January 15, 1949, after the country gained independence in 1947.

In 1949, Lt Gen KM Cariappa took over as Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces from General Francis Butcher, the penultimate British commander-in-chief of the Indian Army. Army Day commemorates the transition of authority from the British to India, which is considered a watershed moment in Indian history. This day is also commemorated to pay honour to the troops who have sacrificed their lives in the service of the country.
INDIAN ARMY- Pride of country
Because it is aiming to become a war-leading force, the Indian Army plays a critical role during emergencies. In order to begin paying tribute to martyred Indian army troops at the “Amar Jawan Jyoti” at India Gate in New Delhi, this day was proclaimed as Indian Army Day.

On this day, a spectacular military parade showing the Indian Army’s latest technologies and achievements. Bravery awards such as Division credentials and Sena Medals are also conferred on this historic day. This day is a way to show love and respect for the Indian army.
