High Court imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on Mamta Banerjee

Kolkata: Judge Kaushik Chanda of Calcutta High Court, who heard the Nandigram case, has imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the Chief Minister of West Bengal, accusing him of tarnishing the justice system, and has also recused himself from the case.

The judge said that she has been told that he has links with a political party. It is almost impossible for anyone in this country to have no political option. If a person belongs to a party, it is not that he will not sue that party. I don’t think there can be any reason for this. He said that Mamata Banerjee will have to pay Rs 5 lakh to tarnish the justice system. This amount will go to the lawyers’ covid fund.

Let us inform that on a petition of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the High Court gave its decision today. CM Mamata had filed a petition in the High Court challenging the result of Nandigram assembly elections. CM’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi had presented the arguments and the High Court had reserved its decision. Earlier, Singhvi argued in the court that there could be bias in the hearing as he (Justice Chanda) has close links with BJP leaders. There will be doubt in the mind of the petitioner regarding this bias.
