
New Delhi: The Election Commission on Thursday evening replied to the Trinamool Congress letter regarding the injury to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram. The Election Commission said that it was unfortunate that the letter was full of attacks and accusations. The commission said that it was indeed an unfortunate incident and it needs to be investigated with urgency.
The Election Commission said that it is completely wrong to say that in the name of conducting elections, the Electoral Institute has completely taken over the law and order machinery and has taken the entire structure of the government under control.
After the alleged attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram on Wednesday evening, a letter of signature of TMC MP Derek-O-Bryan and two other leaders was handed over to the Chief Electoral Officer of Bengal. In this, the leaders of the Trinamool Congress have told the whole incident of the attack on the Chief Minister.
TMC MP Derek O’Brien said that whoever is responsible for the attack on the Chief Minister should be acted upon. He questioned how a chief minister and an election candidate were attacked despite being in Z-plus security. He said that Didi is the only woman Chief Minister of the country.
The TMC had alleged in the letter that on March 9, the Election Commission removed the Director General of Police (DGP) on the pretext of peaceful and fair elections in Bengal.
