Dr. Pawan Kumar Appointed Director of IN-SPACe

The chairman of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Center (IN-SPACe) was recommended as Dr. Pawan Kumar Goenka, the former Director of Mahindra & Mahindra. The Indian government created it last year to encourage private investment and innovation in the space industry.

According to a report, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) accepted his nomination request earlier this week. The appointment has yet to be finalized by the Department of Space (DoS).

Dr. Goenka has won several titles at Mahindra, from COO to President to Executive Director to Managing Director. He stepped down as M&M’s MD and CEO and a member of the board of directors earlier this year.

Dr. Goenka has been a leading figure in the Indian automobile sector for more than four decades. Goenka received the coveted Param Shreshth Award from carandbike earlier this year for his contributions to the Indian auto sector.

IIT Kanpur awarded Goenka a BTech in mechanical engineering, and Cornell University awarded him a Ph.D. He joined Bosch Limited as an independent director for five years after retiring from Mahindra & Mahindra. IN-SPACe is the government’s institutional and regulatory system for facilitating increased private engagement.

It will be the central agency for regulating the private sector in the space sector, having been established last year. It was established as a distinct vertical under the Department of Space to make autonomous judgments about allowing and regulating private-sector space operations.
