Washington: Democratic party has stepped up its efforts to initiate a process of impeachment against US President Donald Trump accusing him of ‘inciting’ the Capitol riots.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has written to her party colleagues, seeking their immediate attention when Majority Leader Hoyer will request Unanimous Consent to bring up the Raskin resolution.
The resolution calls on Vice President Mike Pence to convene and mobilise the Cabinet to activate the 25th Amendment to declare the President incapable of executing the duties of his office, after which the Vice President would immediately exercise powers as acting President.
“In protecting our Constitution and our Democracy, we will act with urgency, because this President represents an imminent threat to both. As the days go by, the horror of the ongoing assault on our democracy perpetrated by this President is intensified and so is the immediate need for action”, Pelosi said in her letter.
In an interview given to a magazine, Ms Pelosi, while responding to a question over who is running the Executive Branch, said, the person who is running the Executive Branch of our government is deranged, unhinged, and dangerous President of the United States. “And only a number of days until we can be protected from him”, she added.
