During the festival, theatre enthusiasts will be treated to an exciting mix of modern theatre that promises an indulging theatre experience, alongside authentic regions and international performances. The 21st BRM at Dehradun will showcase a range of productions comprising 7 shows from critically acclaimed plays carefully curated from across India and around the world.

The festival will host 4 Indian and 3 foreign plays. Among Indian plays, two plays would be held in Bengali and one each in Assamese and Malayalam. Whereas, performances from Sri Lanka and Nepal would be in English and Nepalese respectively.

The opening act on 6th February is the narrative of CHARUDUTTA, the theme of the play not only represents the society in the aforesaid era but also throws light on the degenerating values of the modern society. Love and brotherhood have given way to deceit, cunning and crime. In the story, Charudutta, once a prosperous resident of Ujjaini, due to his compassion and generosity, is now a poor man. Vasantsena, a courtesan, is the pride of the town. She is a benevolent, gracious and beautiful young woman. Enamoured by the extraordinary qualities of Charudutta, she falls madly in love with him. Although the story is a unique example of realism in Sanskrit literature, it is also apt for contemporary Indian theatre.

Dr. Arjun Deo Charan, Acting Chairman, NSD said “BRM aims at uniting individuals and subsequently, we have spread the celebration of the nation over with the goal that venue contacts an increasing number of individuals. BRM has been an exceptionally effective celebration drawing in a ton of crowd and we trust a comparative run for the current year as well.”

Enunciating about the festival, Shri Suresh Sharma, Director In-charge, National School of Drama (NSD), said, “The 21st Bharat Rang Mahotsav focuses on providing an engaging audience experience. There are shows that will leave a far larger imprint on the audience than just making them simply watch something. Hence the audience will also experience the importance of space, design and environments.”

Besides the plays which will be staged every evening, the in New Auditorium campus will be abuzz with allied performances which will include traditional dance and folk performances.

21st Bharat Rang Mahotsava, in total, will be hosting 91 plays pan India i.e. New Delhi, starting from 1st Feb – 21st February 2020.
