Congress UP President Alleges Wrong Delegation Sent to Meet Election Commission for Decision on UP Polls

Ajay Kumar Lallu, the Uttar Pradesh Congress president, wrote to Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra on Wednesday, requesting time for the party’s “authorised” representatives to present the party’s suggestions for “free and fair elections,” while claiming that a delegation that met with the election commission on Tuesday was “not authorised” by the party. “

Ajay Kumar Lallu, Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhna Mishra, former MP Pramod Tiwari, and Naseemudin Siddiqui, would like to make recommendations regarding the holding of free, fair, and timely elections, in accordance with all Covid-related guidelines. Please provide this delegation time to speak with you,” Lallu wrote to Chandra.

Onkarnath Singh announced his resignation from all party positions on Wednesday. Onkarnath Singh further claimed in a letter to AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra that he was verbally approved to attend the election commission meeting by a top party official and was instructed to bring senior party leaders Virendra Madan and Anas Khan with him.

He went on to say that he has held positions such as general secretary and spokesperson, but that the party’s decision has “dented” his reputation.” Ajay Kumar Lallu, the state president of the Congress, could not be reached for comment.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) met with district election officers (DEOs), superintendents of police, police commissioners, and divisional commissioners on Wednesday to assess the law-and-order situation and the administration’s readiness in advance of the UP-Assembly elections, which are scheduled for early next year.

The delegation led by CEC Sushil Chandra is said to have urged officials to focus on raising voter turnout in comparison to 2017, improving the gender ratio in the electoral roll, increasing turnout of women voters, and attempting to confiscate unaccounted funds during the talks. According to reports, the European Commission team requested that authorities, particularly those from western Uttar Pradesh, analyse the impact of the farmers’ agitation.
