Pramod Sawant, the chief minister of Goa, travelled to Delhi on Sunday, where he is expected to meet with BJP’s national president JP Nadda and finalise the name of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Goa.

CM of Goa shared that after 16 January, the party will conduct a meeting with the top leaders and before this, the parliamentary board of the BJP would finalise the lists of candidates who will fight in the elections.
According to a senior party official, the ruling BJP in Goa is scheduled to fight 38 of the state’s 40 Assembly seats.
According to the office-bearer, the party would not field a candidate on its emblem in two Christian-dominated constituencies, Benaulim and Nuvem.
The core committee of the BJP conducted a meeting to finalise the names of the candidates who will fight in the state’s election. Goa’s BJP incharge, Devendra Fadanavis has been chairing meetings attended by CM Savant, BJP state unit president Sadanand Shet Tanavade and others.

The BJP presently has 23 MLAs in Goa, after four legislators resigned from the party and the House in recent days: Michael Lobo, Alina Saldanha, Carlose Almeida, and Pravin Zantye.
Apart from the BJP and the Congress, a number of smaller parties, including the TMC and Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party, have entered the contest in the state to broaden their support. The Assembly election will be held on February 14 and the results will be released on March 10.
