China starts withdrawing troops, removing tents from Galvan Valley

New Delhi: China has removed its tents from the Galvan Valley in Ladakh. On Monday, according to government sources, the Chinese army is withdrawing from some areas of the valley. Sources have said that China has also started removing armored vehicles and equipment. Chinese troops have retreated according to the agreement reached between the corps commanders on both sides.

Sources said that the Chinese army is seen removing the tents from Patrolling Point 14. Similar activities are also being observed in the Gogra Hot Spring area of Chinese soldiers. For the past several weeks, there has been tension between India and China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Twenty soldiers of India were martyred in a violent clash in the Galvan Valley of eastern Ladakh on 15–16 June, after which this tension increased. Meanwhile, there have been talks between the two countries at several levels.

Amid tensions between India and China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suddenly arrived in Ladakh on the morning of July 3. There he addressed the Indian forces and met the soldiers wounded during the Galvan violence in Leh. Prime Minister Modi was accompanied by Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat and Chief of Army Staff MM Narwane. While addressing the soldiers, the PM had said that the days of expansionism are over. Targeting China, the PM had said that the Galvan Valley is ours. The whole of Ladakh is a symbol of India’s honor. Expansionism has always posed a threat to world peace.
