Chennai to have 3 new flyovers by TN government

The government of Tamil Nadu on Thursday has released an order that will allow the construction of three new flyovers in Chennai in order to lower the traffic congestion. In the new budget for 2021-22 released in August last year, the finance minister of state P T R Palanivel Thiagarajan had shared that new flyovers would be built at three places in Chennai such as the Ganesapuram subway, at the intersection of Konnur High Road-Strahan’s Road and at South Usman Road. The budget for the construction of the same is estimated to be around Rs. 335 crores.

The flyover will be built at Ganesapuram at Vyasarpadi, north Chennai on the top of the subway would be 680 metres in length and 15.2 metres wide. The second flyover is built at the intersection of Konnur High Road-Strahan’s Road and it will be made at a price of Rs 62 crore. The Konnur High Road is an important point that is connecting Villivakkam, Perambur Jamalia via Cooks Road, Pattalam via Strahans Road, and Purasawalkam via Brick Kiln Road.

Since the junction has an important point connecting different vital areas of the city, there is bound to be huge traffic congestion, said the civic body. The two-lane bi-directional flyover would be 508 metres long and 8.4 metres wide.

The flyover at South Usman Road, a central shopping hub, is launched to be constructed at a cost of Rs 131 crore between Usman Road and CIT Nagar. It would be 120 metres long and 8.4 metres wide. Development projects should always be constructed in a timely manner so that people can travel to and fro and more business activities can be held for the prosperity and advancement of the city, state, and overall nation.
