Bomb Threat at IGI Airport

After a bomb threat email to Delhi Police warned about terrorist group Al Qaeda preparing an assault on the airport, security at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has been beefed up. According to an official statement from the airport, the threat was determined to be “non-specific” following an inquiry, and the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was removed from the premises.

On Saturday, the IGI police station notified the airport’s Airline Operations Control Center (AOCC) about a bomb threat e-mail received with the subject of a planned bomb blast by members of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda Sargana at IGI airport. It was further revealed that Mohamad Jalal who goes by the name Karanbir Suri along with his wife Haseena are planning to come to Delhi and blast the bomb at IGI while coming from Singapore.

The Security Operations Control Centre (SOCC) discovered that a similar threat communication had been received in the recent past, with the identical identities of the couple and the same threat language.

The Delhi Police have been asked to look into a previous threat message inquiry complaint involving the same couple, as well as investigate the e-mail source. The SOCC notified all affected agencies and issued a high-level warning to duty employees.
