Geneva: World Health Organization chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan said about the reasons for the Corona explosion in India, that a variant of COVID-19 in India is highly contagious and is increasingly hunting people. It can also prevent vaccine protection.
WHO Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan warned in an interview that this variant is spreading very fast in India. Swaminathan said that the B.1.617 variant of Covid-19 is clearly an important factor in the Corona explosion in India. This type of virus was found for the first time in October last year. “There are many things behind the surge in corona cases and the type of virus that spreads rapidly is one of them,” she said.
She said that apart from countries like US and UK, many national health authorities are taking the B.1.617 variants seriously and I hope the World Health Organization will also take some action on this soon. The WHO official said, “The B 1.617 variant is of concern because it has some mutations that increase transmission and may prevent the formation of antibodies to the body by vaccine or natural infection.”
She also said that this version of Covid-19 is not only responsible for the strong rise in Corona cases in India, but it seems that the negligence of the people in India is also responsible for it. People did not take protective measures against Corona seriously. She said that many people in India felt that the crisis was over.
