Ayodhya mosque foundation to be laid on Republic Day

Ayodhya: After a long wait, the foundation stone for the mosque complex, an alternative to the demolished Babri masjid here, is expected to be laid on the Republic Day.

The foundation of the mosque complex would be laid likely on January 26, 2021at Dhannipur village in around 5 acres of land given by the Uttar Pradesh government on the directive of the Supreme Court, delivered on November 9, 2019.
The new mosque complex would be constructed by a Trust set up by UP Sunni Waqf Board, around 20 kilometers away from the Babri mosque.

The foundation would be laid exactly six months after the Sunni waqf board floated an– Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation Trust — for the construction.

“The Trust chose January 26, 2021, for laying the foundation of the Ayodhya mosque as on this day our Constitution came into effect more than seven decades ago, ” confirmed Athar Hussain, secretary of Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation on Thursday.

The blueprint of the mosque and other facilities, including multispeciality hospital, community kitchen and library will be unveiled by the mosque Trust on December 19 as per the project plan finalized by its chief architect, professor SM Akhtar.

Officials said the mosque will have the capacity of 2,000 namazis at a time and the structure will be round-shaped.

The new mosque will be bigger than Babri masjid, but won’t replicate the structure which once stood on Ram Janmabhoomi premises.
