Guwahati: The BJP has suffered a major setback in Assam, just before the election, the BJP’s ally has joined the Congress-led coalition. Before the next month’s elections in the state, BJP’s ally Bodoland People’s Front announced that it was leaving the ruling BJP-led coalition and joining the Congress-led opposition front.
BPF President Hagarama Mohilari said in a statement on Facebook that “To work for peace, unity and development and to bring a stable government free of corruption in Assam, the Bodoland People’s Front has decided to join hands with MAHAJATH.” The BPF will no longer maintain friendship or alliance with the BJP. BPF will join hands with Mahajath in the upcoming Assam assembly election. “
The BPF had won 12 of the 126 seats in the state in the last assembly election and joined the BJP-led coalition. But at the end of last year, the BJP blew up the BPF and selected a new partner to gain a majority and occupy the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), an autonomous body in Bodo-dominated areas of Assam.
