The Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane visited the forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Jammu region on Tuesday, amid an increase in counter-terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to authorities, the Army chief received a briefing on the ground situation in the region as well as ongoing counter-infiltration operations during his visit. The Indian Army’s additional directorate general of public information (ADGPI) tweeted, “General MM Naravane, COAS, visited forward areas of the White Knight Corps and did a first-hand assessment of the situation along the Line of Control.”

“Commands on the ground briefed the COAS on the current situation and ongoing counter-infiltration operations.” General MM Naravane, the Indian Army’s chief of staff, is in Jammu on a two-day visit. He went to the White Knight Corps’ advanced regions on Tuesday to get a firsthand look at the situation along the Line of Control. The visit comes at a time when the Kashmir valley has seen a rash of targeted killings of minorities; eleven people have been slain by terrorists in the valley this month alone.

In the last two to three months, as many as nine to ten LeT militants entered from Pakistan into the forests between the Rajouri and Poonch district borders, according to South Block. Pakistani terrorists are said to have been boosted by their recent successes in Afghanistan, and Indian intelligence officials predicted a possible attack by Pakistani terror troops. In an encounter in the Rajouri sector on Monday, the Indian Army fired down six terrorists belonging to the Pakistan-based Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT), while operations by the 16 Corps soldiers are allegedly underway to neutralise the remaining three to four Islamic militants.
