When I googled, I got the answer that OTT is an over-the-top media service, which means film and television content can be made available on request on the internet to the users of an OTT platform.

Back in 2020, and I was sitting just bored at home when my cousin called up and told me to watch a movie on Zee5 and Disney+ Hotstar as that is a better option to spend the lockdown as theatres and malls were shut then. I didn’t take her too seriously until when I got the news that Salman Khan starrer Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai will be released on Zee5. Even many Bollywood actors streamed their movies on Amazon Prime and Disney+ Hotstar in the last two years.
I started taking OTT platforms and their widespread adoption by people more seriously when recently I saw an ad on television of how Shah Rukh Khan felt dejected of not having a release or content to show on Disney+ Hotstar when all his industry colleagues like Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar have film content present in the last two years on the OTT platforms. This ad and the recent trend of movies and serials getting released on the OTT have made me realize that how the television medium evolved after the big screen in the last two decades, same way OTT will evolve quicker due to the digital adoption of youngsters and elders at home and it will indeed be the next best entertainment medium after TV.
