1944 film Ram Shastri had received a pre-Independence award

India’s famous film school Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) recently found an award certificate.

Interestingly, the certificate was given to Ram Shastri, one of the first biopics produced in 1944.

This clearly makes the award a pre-independence award and now it would be showcased at the Prabhat Museum, as per the FTII officials.

The film was based on the sotry Ram Shastri Prabhune who was the Chief Justice in the apex court of the Maratha Empire in the latter half of the 18th century.

When the film was released 76 years back, it became a huge hit and gained a lot of accolades.

As per the details on the Certificate of Merit, the award was presented to the film Ram Shastri for the Best Hindi Picture of the Year 1944 by Bengal Film Journalists’ Association, Calcutta.
