Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind awarded scholarships to 656 non-Muslim students

New Delhi: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has completed the process of distribution of scholarships for higher and vocational education to a total of 656 meritorious students for the academic year 2020-21. The most important thing at this time is that the scholarship recipients include non-Muslim students as well. It is to be noted that Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind started giving scholarships to talented and hardworking students who are financially weak and needy from 2012. For this, Maulana Arshad Madani Public Trust formally has launched the “Taleemi Imdadi Fund”, and formed a committee of educationists who selects students on the basis of merit.

A significant progress has been made this year in view of the number of needy students, President Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind Maulana Arshad Madani announced to increase the amount of aid from five million to one crore rupees. There were a large number of non-Muslim students among the applicants for the scholarships. Students were selected only on the basis of the rules and conditions set for the scholarships, and the non-Muslim students who fulfilled this merit were also selected for the scholarships.

As a result of the increase in the amount of scholarships, it has been possible to provide more scholarships to eligible students this year as compared to previous years. It is worth mentioning that the courses for which Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind offers scholarships include Medical, Engineering, B.Tech, M.Tech Polytechnic, B.Sc., B.Com, B.A., B.B.A., B.C.A, M.Com, MSc, MCA, Diploma, ITI etc.
Expressing his views on the occasion, Maulana Arshad Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, said that the entire history of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has shown that it has always worked irrespective of caste, creed, community, religion and creed. Therefore, it is not the matter of surprise that non-Muslim students have also been selected for the scholarship, but it is a matter of great pleasure for us that this small effort of ours will help many non-Muslim needy students to shape their future. By doing so, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has tried to send a message to the brothers that no matter what the circumstances are, we do not deviate from the tradition and principles of our elders. Our elders have worked in every era irrespective of religion and nationality. Their main mission had been to serve and benefit humanity.

Maulana Madani added that education has become very expensive in today’s era, and despite all the claims of the government, its welfare and education schemes are not reaching the needy. Keeping this in mind, we started scholarships program, and focused on the fact that only students with higher and vocational education would be given priority. So that after the completion of higher and professional education, they will not be in need of anyone.

He also said that no nation in the world cannot be self dependent without education. Years ago, the Sachar Committee in its report on the educational and social development of Muslims had revealed that the condition of Muslims in the field of education was worse than that of Dalits. During the UPA regime, some schemes were launched announcing the implementation of the report of the Sachar Committee and the recommendations of the Ranganath Mishra Commission, but the situation has not improved significantly.
He further said that the analysis of our experts revealed the fact that many talented students of the nation drop out of school due to lack of money. Subsequently, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind decided to provide scholarships to such needy children.
Maulana Madani said that in view of the increasing number of needy students, we have increased the amount of scholarships from 5 million to 10 million this year.

At last, he said that the way in which non-Muslim students applied for scholarships this time is very appreciating. In future also if non-Muslim students will apply for scholarships, and meet the criteria, they would be awarded accordingly because Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind Philanthropy’s works is being done form the very beginning without any religious or professional discrimination. Scholarships are also a great charity because it can improve the lives of many students who cannot afford higher and vocational education due to financial difficulties.
