Lucknow: Passing the class 10 examinations from the UP Board with first division marks and that too from a jail needs a lot of hard work. The 30-year-old Manoj Yadav, lodged in Shahjahanpur jail, has done that. Yadav’s story does not end there. The results of class 10 and those of class 12 were announced on Saturday. A sessions court handed him capital punishment in November 2021 for murdering a five-year-old in 2015, a jail official said on Sunday. A resident of Kalan area in the district, Yadav scored 64% marks, jail superintendent BD Panday said.

Yadav left studies and isolated himself after he was handed capital punishment. The jail staff noticed that and, with the help of counsellors, encouraged him to pay attention to studies, Pandey said. Yadav was one of the four inmates who applied for the examinations. Another inmate scored passing marks, Pandey said. There are more than 1,600 inmates in Shahjahanpur jail. Besides Yadav, 163 inmates lodged in different jails across the state passed the examinations conducted Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad. Pandey as well as other officials of Shahjahanpur jail congratulated Yadav for his success and advised him to continue his studies.
