The biggest formula of successful people is that they never think that they don’t deserve happiness, success, wealth, fortune, and things that they want in life. They think that they are good enough and are able to get whatever they want in life. Underestimating ourselves is one of the major reasons why people never try to do things better than earlier. They keep giving excuses and reasons for not getting a promotion at work saying that the other person deserved it more than them. People who have low self-esteem and work really well do not understand that they could have gotten that promotion quite earlier if they had asked for it.
What is your Mantra of Career Success?
Asking your manager for a salary raise or better payment will always ensure that you are aware of your abilities and skills. If you keep working like a donkey that just knows to complete its given work and dance as per the tunes of its master, you are nowhere heading in the right direction. In order to have good knowledge about what things work in the industry and what doesn’t, talk to people. Connect with your peers in the industry and know what trends and what don’t.

If your skills are in-demand and you are being underpaid because you never quoted a higher salary during your interviews and you never thought that you are worthy of something better than your present job, then it is time to up your game. You need to learn to convince your employer to get the reality check of what you get paid, what is your role in the company, and how you can contribute well if he or she gives you that expected salary raises or change in the job title.
You never know if your manager or employer would be pleased that he or she is working with a confident employee who knows about his strengths and limitations as well. Probably he may stop misusing your talents and give you the much-needed worth in the company by introducing you to more prominent people in the industry. It is always good to ask instead of wait to be given. Because people these days really are not bothered about what are your problems.
All it matters to them is their work and only their problems in life. So, the next time you help your manager to complete the most difficult project in your company, do tell them you won’t work for free and are eyeing a better job title and probably a better work location. The more you know your worth and what things you deserve in a confident and clear manner, the more you will be able to convince others to work for your betterment.
So, don’t waste your time working with the same company for more than 5 or 10 years and being in the same job just because you underestimate yourself. Upgrade yourself, expand your abilities and ASK for what you want to grow in your life. You never know if your manager would be actually the one who is waiting for you to open up and know yourself.
