Student suicide matters have seen a huge spike and keeping in mind the seriousness of the matter Proctor Rajni Abbi DU has issued an advisory, stating that it is very evident in the current situation in the university that some students are not able to bear so much pressure and are finding ways to tackle it in the wrong way by committing suicide.

The matter came into limelight a few days after a student from Zakir Hussain College committed suicide and died on the spot. To save from further loss of lives,  Delhi University took strict actions and issued an advisory to the respective college heads to communicate with the students on a regular basis and guide them on the matter and also explain how precious human life is.

All the important dignitaries/ management from heads, directors, principals, and provosts, to wardens are given the responsibility to look after their students have more communication sessions and make the students realise the value of human life and how taking such steps can lead to worsening atmosphere for others. Previously also there have been certain occasions where the proctor was  threatened by students for unimportant issues.

After the Zakir Hussain college student took his life, there have been new rules in the colleges for new batches. They are being given special sessions on the matter and it has been added as part of the main counselling curriculum in the orientation programme and hence mandatory. Zakir Hussain College student reportedly jumped off the college building leading to on the spot death and sent a wave of shock.

She was a young girl and studied as a second-year student in the BA Honours (Political Science)programme. She also wrote a suicide note which was later found in one of her pockets, which stated that the step was totally her will and there is  no one to be blamed for her extreme step, said the note.
