When you think about HR Leadership, what does the first thing that comes to your mind? You may be thinking why not I have an HR manager as a leader in my company who inspires and walks the talk? Just being good at your job doesn’t make you feel sufficient but you expect a few qualities that will help you also give your best at the work. Now if I turn the tables around and tell you to walk in the shoes of an HR leader then what does come to your mind? What qualities do you think will set you apart in the HR industry?
1) First and foremost your work ethics matter the most. It is essential that as a leader in human resource management, your action should speak the right thing. You cannot be biased toward your favorite employees and allow them to take a day off and make other sincere employees work overtime to complete your targets. Your policies should be for one and all.
2) You should be the problem-solver of the company and not the problem-creator. For example, if you have an ethical dilemma, you should sort things out by discussing it with your leader or manager rather than creating more issues for you and your employees. You are an important aspect of your business and thus, you need to care for yourself first and get the demons out of your head when things are quite riskier.
3) Do not hire someone based just on their qualifications. You need to get people on-board on whom you can trust and also get thoughtful behavior from them. You shouldn’t micromanage or follow them but instead, get your reports in time without doing many follow-ups. That is the kind of people you should hire who are responsible enough to get their work done independently.
4) You need to explore those unexplored areas of your employees that they may not be aware of. For example, if your creative writer has been struggling with writing copies in a niche that is quite technical in nature, then you can immediately switch them to categories that they are aware of. Don’t ask them to work on something that they are not interested in or comfortable with. At times, you need to act as their coach and help them make the right transition.
5) Be assertive by nature and confident in your approach. You should know what is it that you want in life, your office, your team, and your company. Without clarity and confidence, you won’t be able to go ahead in life. You have to simply help your team to work on achievable targets so that their morale to work with you is positive and they willingly come to you to take extra projects or work.
6) To inspire others, you need to inspire yourself first. To gain respect from others, you need to respect yourself first. So, if you are someone who is struggling with self-respect issues, you can simply start working on areas that reflect the negativity of your life. You can convert your threats into opportunities with the help of mindful thinking.
