The Manipur government revised the Covid-19 restrictions on Saturday, including a night curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and the order will be in effect until February 28.
The order was issued by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Manipur’s chief secretary and chairwoman of the state disaster management authority’s executive committee, “in light of the large increase in infection by the highly mutant Covid-19 variant Omicron in the country.”

According to the ruling, physical classes will be limited to pupils in grades IX and up, with a maximum of 50 percent of the classroom capacity.
“Only online classes in coaching centres and private tuition centres (No physical lessons),” the order declared, adding, “Online classes should be enhanced and physical classes should be reduced.”
Shopping malls are allowed to open with 50% of customers and to strictly follow Covid protocols. It also stated that eating areas of hotels or restaurants shall allow and serve only 50% capacity, and that gyms and fitness centres may open from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m.
From 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., all stores and business establishments are permitted to operate. Shops selling fish, poultry, and poultry products, as well as milk and fresh milk products, must be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the directive. Shops in Thangal and Paona Bazar are permitted to open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All Central and state government offices can function with 66% physical presence of personnel, according to the order.

It further said that gatherings in closed places are limited to a maximum of 50 people or half of the capacity, whichever is smaller, while open spaces are limited to a maximum of 200 people.
Meanwhile, one Covid fatality was reported in the Imphal East region of the state on Saturday. The death toll has risen to 2,038 people.
