Madhya Pradesh: 26,000 quarantined after 10 funeral feast attendees contract Covid-19

New Delhi: The area is sealed with over 26,000 people in 3,000 houses after 10 people were found to be Corona positive in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh. According to officials, during the funeral feast in the house of Corona positive person, people succumbed to infection. People are placed in the home quarantine.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) RS Bakna said the man who worked as a waiter in a hotel in Dubai returned to Morena from Dubai on 17 March after receiving information about his mother’s death.

He said, “He organized the feast on March 20, the 13th day of mourning after his mother’s death.”

Chief Medical and Health Officer RC Bandil said the man initially hid his travel history, but it was revealed when he and his wife underwent a test for corona virus on April 2. Both were found to be corona positive.

The couple came to the hospital on March 27 after the condition deteriorated. The doctors suspected the corona virus, so the couple were immediately sent to an isolation ward and their samples taken which turned out to be positive, after which the man revealed his travel history.

On April 3, 10 more people who came in contact with the couple were caught by the deadly viral. Due to which the district administration got worried.

Authorities later learned that between 1,000 and 1,200 people attended the funeral feast held at the man’s residence. “This spread the infection and the administration sealed the entire ward number 4, where the man lives,” said Bakna.

According to Bandil, a total of 27,881 people are in the home quarantine so far in the district. “There are about 26,000 of these people who attended the feast and came in contact with their family members,” he said.
