New Delhi: India on Thursday reported 1,26,789 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, the highest ever daily surge since the outbreak of the pandemic, the data by the Union Health Ministry stated on Thursday.
With this, the country’s overall Covid tally now stands at 1,29,28,574. The death toll mounted to 1,66,862 with 685 more fatalities in the past day.
According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases rose by 66,846 to stand at 9,10,319. It is now 6.59 per cent of the total caseload. The past 24 hours saw 59,258 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 1,18,51,393, which is 92.11 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.30 per cent.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 25,26,77,379 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 12,37,781 were tested in the past one day.
