17% fall in new cases of coronavirus in India

New Delhi: India on Tuesday registered a record 56,211 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the country caseload to 1,20,95,855. The country witnessed 271 deaths, mounting the death toll to 1,62,114, as per the Union health ministry update.

The active cases rose by 18,912 to stand at 5,40,720. It is now 4.47 per cent of the total caseload.

The past 24 hours saw 37,028 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 1,13,93,021, which is 94.19 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.34 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 24,26,50,025 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 7,85,864 were tested in the past one day.

On the vaccination front, a total of 6,11,13,354 vaccine doses have been administered, with 5,82,919 vaccinated in the last 24 hours.
