In a historic event on January 22, Ayodhya buzzed with excitement as devotees witnessed the grand consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir, ending years of anticipation. The highlight of the occasion was the unveiling of a stunning 51-inch tall Ram idol, sculpted from sacred black stone.

Why Black Stone?

The enchanting Ram Lalla idol is crafted from Shaligram stone, a special type revered in Hinduism as the idol form of Lord Vishnu. Found along the banks of sacred rivers, this smooth, oval-shaped fossil stone is considered holy. The choice of black stone adds a touch of mystique and divinity to the idol, creating a fitting representation of Lord Rama.

Seventy-four years ago, the Ram Lalla idol stood modestly at 9 inches, made with Ashtadhatu. The journey from this humble structure in 1949 to the grandeur of the 51-inch black stone idol symbolizes not just a physical evolution but also the enduring spirit of devotion that has been passed down through the decades.

Why Child Ram in Ayodhya?

Why depict Lord Rama as a five-year-old child? The answer lies in the deep symbolism of Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama. Ayodhya, the sacred Janmabhoomi, resonates with the divine connection between the city and the cherished childhood of Lord Rama. Hence, the installation of the Ram Lalla idol captures the innocence and purity of the divine child.

The celebration doesn’t end with the enchanting Ram Lalla idol. The Ayodhya Ram Mandir is set to house idols representing Lord Ram’s brothers, Sita, and Hanuman on the first floor. This meticulous arrangement will unfold over the next eight months, adding another layer of excitement to the spiritual journey.
